Trump Already Mad at Mulvaney Due to ‘Terrible Human Being’ Comment

Mick Mulvaney may not last long as an employee in Donald Trump’s White House after all. Before he has even started his new job as White House Chief of Staff Mulvaney is reportedly already in the president’s dog house.

Mulvaney is schedule to begin his new job in the White House at the end of December. But, according to The Daily Beast:

Donald Trump is reportedly already turning on Mick Mulvaney—who hasn’t even started his new job as acting White House chief of staff yet—due to a two-year-old video uncovered by The Daily Beast, which shows Mulvaney calling the president “a terrible human being.”

After current White House Chief of Staff John Kelly announced he was leaving, there was an embarrassing period of time where it appeared that nobody was going to take the job as Kelly’s replacement.

Trump eventually announced Mulvaney’s appointment to the position, which some people consider the second most powerful job in Washington.

But it didn’t take Trump long to start regretting his appointment of the former South Carolina congressman who currently holds the position of budget director. Soon after the announcement, Trump saw the video of Mulvaney from 2016 saying: “Yes, I am supporting Donald Trump, but I’m doing so despite the fact that I think he’s a terrible human being.”

Reportedly Trump was “furious” when he first heard about the footage and then saw it. He reportedly asked one adviser: “Did you know Mulvaney called me ‘a terrible human being’ back during the campaign?”

Mulvaney and his staff are dismissing the controversy over the 2016 comments, saying they are “old news” and that he changed his mind about Trump after meeting him.

But, to add to the controversy, CNN’s “New Day” on Tuesday aired audio from October 2016 in which Mulvaney said neither Trump nor his Democratic presidential rival Hillary Clinton would “be a role model for my 16-year-old triplets.”

“In an ordinary universe, would both of these people’s past activities disqualify them from serving for office? Yes,” Mulvaney told CNN.

“But that’s not the world we live in today. The world we live in today, it’s either him or her and for me that’s still an easy choice,” he added, saying he would support Trump.

Even though Mulvaney has gotten along well with Trump over the past two years, and has often golfed with the president, there is no guarantee that his past comments will be overlooked. Trump is known to have very thin skin and usually promotes those people who praise and compliment him the most.

With the amount of chaos currently surrounding Washington and the Trump administration, the last thing the White House needs is more discord in the Chief of Staff position. But apparently such discord has already begun, and it is likely to continue into the new year.
