Rachel Maddow openely wondered why high-level officials in the Trump campaign, including Vice President Mike Pence, aren’t facing charges for allowing foreign agents access to classified intelligence.
As the MSNBC host pointed out, Pence and others knew that Flynn and his associates were foreign agents – and they still allowed them access to highly sensitive material during the transition and beyond.
“They were either in on it themselves or turned a blind eye to it and let these people have access to highly classified information and high level decision making on intelligence matters,” Maddow said.

Maddow said:
What about the other people in the transition and the Trump administration who knew all that and just let those guys in, let them stay in there anyway? I mean, Pence, McGahn, Priebus, all these guys who got these warnings, it’s fine that they just blew them off? I mean, maybe this is just the way these things work, but what we saw today is the guy who is literally the lowest link in the chain getting charged, plus a foreigner, a guy in Turkey who nobody is ever going to be able to find. But all these other people, all these other ranking people who had very senior and important national security roles and decision making roles in the federal government of the United States, they were either in on it themselves or turned a blind eye to it and let these people have access to highly classified information and high level decision making on intelligence matters. They just decide they’d didn’t care, let it happen. None of them get charged? None of them are implicated? This is how this ends? Only the lowest guy on the pole gets charged?
Maddow’s comments come on the same day that two of Michael Flynn’s associates were charged in an illegal foreign lobbying case.
As Maddow pointed out on Monday, there is a reason that Michael Flynn won’t be getting any jailtime even though he was central to a foreign lobbying scheme during the campaign.
That reason is likely because he gave Robert Mueller key information to help advance the ongoing special counsel investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
If that’s the case, Donald Trump might not be the only person on the hook. So, too, could other high-level officials on the Trump team, including Mike Pence.
