In a scattershot tweet, Trump begged Democrats for votes for his wall and then threatened to shut down the border if he doesn’t get them.

Trump tweeted:

We would save Billions of Dollars if the Democrats would give us the votes to build the Wall. Either way, people will NOT be allowed into our Country illegally! We will close the entire Southern Border if necessary. Also, STOP THE DRUGS!

Democrats aren’t going to vote for the wall

Democrats in Congress have had one consistent message for Trump. They will vote for border security funds, but they will not vote to fund the wall. The only way that Trump will ever get funding for the wall is if he helps the Dreamers, or offers major concessions in other areas like Obamacare or Republicans agree to legislation to protect special counsel Robert Mueller.

Trump‘s threat to shut down the border does no harm to Democrats. Every time Trump tries another stunt on the border, he only hurts himself. A GAO report in August found that Trump‘s border wall could cost billions of dollars when the unseen costs are factored in.

The wall isn’t going to save money. Drug smugglers want the wall because they see it as a distraction that will increase their profits and strengthen criminal networks.

Trump is begging for votes because time is running out

Trump is begging Democrats to vote for his wall because the 2020 presidential campaign is about to begin. He promised his supporters a wall, and he hasn’t delivered. Republicans in Congress don’t want the wall. Many of them view it as a waste of money. Democrats aren’t going to support the wall, and Mexico is never going to pay for it.

Donald Trump is desperate, but he will never get the Democratic votes to build his wall.
