Rachel Maddow said on Thursday that Michael Cohen’s jaw-dropping guilty plea should have Donald Trump Jr. worried that he could be Robert Mueller‘s next criminal indictment.
As the MSNBC host noted, the president’s eldest son has been worried for weeks that he might be indicted for the same thing Cohen plead guilty to on Thursday – lying to Congress.
Maddow said, “If you didn’t take those prospects (of criminal indictments) seriously before, now that somebody just plead guilty to a felony for lying to Congress, you take that more seriously after today.”

Maddow said:
What happened today with Michael Cohen tells us a few different things that are really interesting in terms of where we are as a country right now and where this presidency is and is going. Number one, it tells us that Mueller‘s prosecutors are willing to bring felony charges against people who have lied to Congress in conjunction with this scandal. Vanity Fair reported weeks ago that the president’s eldest son, Don Jr., has been very concerned and there have been serious concerns in the White House that he would be indicted for having lied to Congress. I was never quite sure how seriously to take those kinds of reported worries, but if you didn’t take the prospect of felony indictments for lying to Congress — if you didn’t take those prospects seriously before, now that somebody just plead guilty to a felony for lying to Congress, you take that more seriously after today.
Robert Mueller is alive and well – and not messing around
What the recent flurry of activity in the Russia investigation shows is that Robert Mueller is alive and well after the election-season lull – and he’s not messing around.
The post-election developments in Mueller‘s probe indicate that this investigation has reached a whole new phase, which is why the president’s tweets and public comments have taken on an increasingly desperate and unhinged tone.
And the latest steps being taken by Mueller and others connected to this investigation have only confirmed the behind-the-scenes indictment concerns of Trump‘s eldest son.
If Donald Trump Jr. thinks he’ll get away with any potential lies he told under oath to Congress, Thursday’s guilty plea from Michael Cohen should make him think again.
