Al Gore Calls Out Trump For Trying To Bury US Climate Crisis Report

Former vice president Al Gore called out Donald Trump for trying to bury a US report on the climate change crisis by releasing it the day after Thanksgiving.

Gore tweeted a statement:

The report paints a dire picture of what climate change will do to the US economy , “With continued growth in emissions at historic rates, annual losses in some economic sectors are projected to reach hundreds of billions of dollars by the end of the century—more than the current gross domestic product (GDP) of many U.S. states.”

It is estimated that an additional 9,300 people will die in major cities each year due to climate change, “Across these cities, the change in mortality is projected to be an additional 9,300 deaths each year under a higher scenario (RCP8.5) and 3,900 deaths each year under a lower scenario (RCP4.5). Assuming a future in which the human health response to extreme temperatures in all 49 cities was equal to that of Dallas today (for example, as a result of availability of air conditioning or physiological adaptation) results in an approximate 50% reduction in these mortality estimates. For example, in Atlanta, an additional 349 people are projected to die from extreme temperatures each year by the end of century under RCP8.5. Assuming residents of Atlanta in 2090 have the adaptive capacity of Dallas residents today, this number is reduced to 128 additional deaths per year. Cities without circles should not be interpreted as having no extreme temperature impact.”

The report was supposed to come out in December, but the Trump administration released it early over a holiday weekend

CNN reported, “The federally mandated study was supposed to come out in December but was released by the Trump administration on Friday, at a time when many Americans are on a long holiday weekend, distracted by family and shopping.”

Al Gore was right. Trump tried to bury the report, and he did so because he doesn’t want to believe the science about climate changes. Of all of the damage that Trump has done as president, the one aspect that is not revisable is the time lost in the fight against our changing climate.
