Incumbent GOP Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith of Mississippi was caught on camera admitting that she wants to make it harder for liberals to vote in a key Senate runoff election on Nov. 27.
In a set of remarks recorded earlier this month, Hyde-Smith said she’s in favor of making it “just a little more difficult” for young progressives to cast a ballot.
“I think that’s a great idea,” she said.

The full quote: “And then they remind me, that there’s a lot of liberal folks in those other schools who that maybe we don’t want to vote. Maybe we want to make it just a little more difficult. And I think that’s a great idea.”
Later this month, Hyde-Smith will face Democratic opponent Mike Espy in a Senate runoff election since neither candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the Nov. 6 election.
While it would be a major upset is Espy pulled off the win in deep-red Mississippi, Hyde-Smith’s comments suggest she’d like to shave off some more Democratic votes – you know, just to be safe.
Hyde-Smith would be toast if she wasn’t running in Mississippi
If Hyde-Smith wasn’t running in the state of Mississippi, her candidacy would already be dead in the water.
After all, her open suggestion that young votes should be suppressed comes after she recently joked about attending a “public hanging,” conveniently forgetting/ignoring her state’s racist past – and the fact that her opponent is an African American.
The more she speaks, the more clear it becomes: Cindy Hyde-Smith has no business being a United States senator – not even one from Mississippi.
