Rachel Maddow May Have Just Ended Martha McSally’s Senate Campaign With A Brilliant Fact Check

The Arizona Senate contest has been one of the closest races in the country this election cycle, but Rachel Maddow may have just dashed the GOP’s hopes of holding onto the seat.

In a brilliant fact check, Maddow exposed GOP candidate Martha McSally’s blatant lies about her position on protecting health care coverage for her constituents.

“Are you freaking kidding me?” Maddow said in response to the Republican’s pledge that she is the candidate who will protect the Affordable Care Act after once saying she wanted to “f—ing kill” it.

Transcript:

MADDOW: Congresswoman Martha McSally of Arizona told her colleagues, quote, let’s get this f-ing thing done. Says Martha McSally. According to other people in the room and multiple reports, she didn’t say f’ing. She said the whole thing. ‘Let’s get this [beep], let’s get this f-ing thing done. And by this f’ing thing, she means let’s kill Obama care. Let’s f-ing kill it. That’s Martha McSally. And now she’s running for Senate in Arizona like this.

MCSALLY:  We cannot go back to where we were before Obamacare where people were one diagnosis away from going bankrupt because they could not get access to health care.

MADDOW: What was the way she put it again? Let’s get this f-ing thing done, let’s f-ing kill Obamacare. Now running as the Senate candidate that Arizona should trust to protect Obamacare. It’s just like are you freaking kidding me?

Republicans tried to kill Obamacare. Now they’re running as if they created it.

Republicans in Congress voted dozens of times to repeal the Affordable Care Act, including protections for those with pre-existing conditions.

Yet, in this election cycle, Donald Trump and GOP candidates all across the country – including some of the same folks who have their names attached to lawsuits challenging protections for pre-existing conditions – are running as if they invented Obamacare.

As Maddow so appropriately said on Thursday night, “Are you freaking kidding me?”

This strategy might work inside of the right-wing media bubble or at one of Trump’s mob-style MAGA rallies, but anybody who has been paying attention will see right through it.
