The Republican meltdown continues.
Republican candidate Scott Wagner threatened Democratic Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf: “You better put a catcher’s mask on your face because I’m going to stomp all over your face with golf spikes.”
You know, like you do when you’re running for office and really hate violence and mobs.
Republicans and the media are desperately trying to make, as Greg Sargent explained so well today in the Washington Post, the Left’s reaction to their rights being trampled the same as this threat from Republican Scott Wagner. This was not metaphorical and it was directed at a specific person. It was clearly a threat from a desperately losing candidate.
See if you, unlike the conflating media and desperate Republicans, can spot the difference between “you better put a mask on because I’m gonna stomp all over your face!” and Eric Holder’s: “Michelle always says, ‘When they go low, we go high.’ No. When they go low, we kick them. That’s what this new Democratic Party is about. We’re proud as hell to be Democrats. We’re willing to fight for the ideals of the Democratic Party.
“Now, when I say, you know, ‘we kick ‘em,’ I don’t mean we do anything inappropriate. We don’t do anything illegal. But we’ve got to be tough and we’ve got to fight for the very things that John Lewis, Martin Luther King, Whitney Young, you know, all those folks gave to us. That stuff can be taken away. That’s what they want to do.”
Yeah, see one quote is about defending hard earned rights. The other is about physically assaulting someone because the man speaking is frustrated that his ideas suck and he can’t participate in a political fight without reaching for stupidly violent imagery in an attempt to sound like a strong man.
Republicans and the media have been all over this Holder quote, when they weren’t clutching pearls over Hillary Clinton saying civility can come later after Democrats win. ZOMG, a black man and a woman getting angry. That is not allowed.
Anger, when it comes from white men carrying torches, one of whom ended up murdering an innocent woman, that kind of anger is apparently understandable. Whereas anger over having voting rights stolen, jailed babies, and rapists emboldened is confusing to the media and Republicans.
Another way to see this is the white men who run the media will tell you when it’s okay to be angry, and when you are out of line. You thought their job as journalists was to hold power accountable, but their real job is to keep you, the people, in line lest you get too uppity.
And by uppity, I mean what you think I mean – people who are not in power demanding rights.
No one has ever liked the powerless demanding a voice. No one has ever said, ‘Yes this is your time, go ahead, we support you taking power for yourself which might mean we are not the only voice in the room anymore.’
The powers that be always try to maintain the status quo, because it benefits them.
Donald Trump is still leading “Lock her up” chants, but the media focuses on the Left’s reaction to this threat instead of the threat itself. Brett Kavanaugh spewed hatred about liberals and Democrats in his confirmation hearing, but the media paints liberals as bad for protesting him. On and on it goes.
The truth right now is that Republicans are the mob, and they are coming for everyone else. They are out of control, lawless, shameless, and ruthless.
They are Trump. Scott Wagner is a mini-Trump. These kinds of mob politicians are the problem, not the people reacting to having their rights and voices trampled.
