Nikki Haley Reportedly Resigns as United Nations Ambassador

A new report from Axios is saying that President Donald Trump has accepted the resignation of United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley .

“BREAKING: Nikki Haley resigns from role in Trump admin”

Two people “familiar with the matter” reported on Tuesday that President Donald Trump accepted Haley’s resignation. They did not say when she would depart or what day her resignation would be effective.

Haley is the former Republican governor of South Carolina. She joined the Trump administration in 2017 just four days after the president officially took office. There were reports that she had discussed leaving her position at the United Nations last week when she visited with Trump at the White House.

According to Axios, “Her news shocked a number of senior foreign policy officials in the Trump administration.”

Ambassador Haley has been a key player in the Trump Administration, overseeing the president’s shift in many foreign policies. This includes a change in the fundamental nature of how the United States deals with the United Nations. For example, she was instrumental in arranging the U.S. exit from the UN Human Rights Council, which Haley called the organization’s “greatest failure.”

Haley wrote a Washington Post op-ed in September in which she expressed her opinions concerning the criticisms of Trump in the notorious New York Times anonymous op-ed piece that was very critical of the president.

In her own published opinion piece, Haley wrote:

“I don’t agree with the president on everything. When there is disagreement, there is a right way and a wrong way to address it. I pick up the phone and call him or meet with him in person.”

“Like my colleagues in the Cabinet and on the National Security Council, I have very open access to the president. He does not shut out his advisers, and he does not demand that everyone agree with him. I can talk to him most any time, and I frequently do.”

“If I disagree with something and believe it is important enough to raise with the president, I do it. And he listens.”

Rumors of Ambassador Haley leaving her post have been swirling around Washington for weeks.

PoliticusUSA will bring you more information about this breaking story as it develops throughout the day.
