Hillary Clinton said that Republicans are trying to destroy everything that Democrats stand for and care about, which is why there can be no civility until after Democrats take back Congress.
Video:
Clinton said on CNN, “You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about. That’s why I believe if we are fortunate enough to win back the house and/or the Senate, that’s when civility can start again. But until then, the only thing that the Republicans seem to recognize and respect is strength. And you heard how the Republican members led by Mitch Mcconnell, the president really demeaned the confirmation process.”
The reason why compromise is dead in American politics is that Republicans no longer believe in the facts that formerly made up the shared reality of the American experience. As the nation saw with the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation, the Republican Party only cares about winning. Republicans don’t care about process, rules, norms, or decency. They just care about getting their way.
Hillary Clinton made a great point. One can’t be civil with a political party that is trying to destroy you. There can be no negotiation when one side refuses to acknowledge facts and reality. This isn’t about politics, issues, and partisanship anymore. Republicans are trying to take away rights, civil liberties, and access to affordable health care that millions of Americans depend on.
Republicans only understand strength, and they won’t get the message until the voters punch them in the mouth by voting for Democrats in November.
Now is not the time to be nice and worry about not stepping on toes. It is the time to fight. Democrats need to wake up. Don’t just go to the polls, storm the polls with your family and friends. Public opinion polling shows that the pieces are in place for Democrats to do well, but it is the follow through on election day that will drop a reality bomb on the delusional GOP.
