Maine Republican Sen. Susan Collins channeled her inner-Donald Trump on Friday by dismissing the allegations against Brett Kavanaugh and announcing her support for his Senate confirmation.
“In evaluating any given claim of misconduct, we will be ill-served in the long run if we abandon the presumption of innocence and fairness, tempting though it may be,” the Maine Republican said during an excruciatingly long speech on Friday.
But in less than a minute, MSNBC’s Joy Reid showed that Collins’ decision to support Kavanaugh – and her reasoning behind it – makes her one of the biggest frauds of the “Me Too” era.
Reid pointed out this quote from Sen. Collins last year when she was showing phony outrage over Sen. Al Franken: “I did find the allegations against [Franken] to be both credible, disgusting and appalling and degrading to women.”

Joy Reid hit Collins hard:
Can we remind people that Sen. Al Franken was accused of doing that photo, that ridiculous photo and some other women said he hugged them too tightly when taking photos? Kavanaugh is accused of sexual assault. But Sen. Collins found the allegations against Sen. Franken totally credible, but she can’t find any credibility whatsoever in what Dr. Ford had to say.
For Susan Collins, this had nothing to do with survivors of sexual assault or the nonsense she spewed on Friday about due process and the presumption of innocence. Her complete 180 from her previous Al Franken outrage is proof of that.
The only consistent thing about the Maine Republican is the fact that she likes to fool just about everybody into thinking she has a political conscience, only to let the country down every single time. It’s time for the media and voters to stop falling for it.
Going forward, the American people would be better served by ignoring this fraud – at least until she’s thrown out in 2020.
