Katy Tur Drops A Reality Check: America Doesn’t Need A Tape To Know Trump Is A Racist

MSNBC’s Katy Tur, who covered Donald Trump up close during the campaign, said the public feud between the president and Omarosa Manigault Newman isn’t teaching us anything new about the man living in the White House.

In a discussion with Chris Matthews, Tur said the American people knew Trump was a misogynistic racist long before Omarosa’s controversial book tour.

“I think that the version of Donald Trump that she is putting out there is the version of Donald Trump that everybody knows,” Tur said.

Katy Tur explained:

Is she going to change the mind of anyone who voted for Donald Trump, I’m not so sure. I think that the version of Donald Trump that she is putting out there is the version of Donald Trump that everybody knows. I also think that the president gives pretty easy cover for his supporters by painting her as a liar and as an opportunist. I am not sure whose mind she changes. I’m not sure whose mind she changes. … I’m just not sure what she has shown that we haven’t already seen from the president himself on his Twitter feed or in the way he speaks about people or we saw during the campaign. … Omarosa has said spectacular things, including that the president knew about the WikiLeaks e-mails before WikiLeaks went out. I don’t think calling him a a racist or a misogynist is as surprising as a revelation like that.

We don’t need a tape to prove that Trump is a misogynistic racist

Since the day Trump announced his candidacy for president, it was clear he planned to use bigotry to fuel his campaign. Heck, his first major political speech was a disgusting attack on Mexican immigrants.

Throughout the campaign and his presidency, he continued to spew his racist bile, repeatedly attacking minority groups and equating them to animals and canines.

Even his attack on Omarosa this week – calling her a “dog” and questioning her intelligence – was full of racial dog whistles.

Katy Tur is right. Trump’s supporters can see a tape of the president shooting somebody on Fifth Avenue, and they would shout “fake news” before drooling into a cup. It simply doesn’t matter how damning the proof is; they won’t budge.

For the rest of the country – the majority – a tape isn’t necessary. If and when more are released – particularly the hyped up N-word tape – it will only confirm what most of the country has known for years.
