Congressman Says Democrats Have The Candidates To Unleash A Blue Tsunami On Trump

Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) said that House Democrats have so many good candidates that they are capable of unleashing a blue tsunami on Donald Trump in November.

Video:

Swalwell said on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House, “We have the candidates for it to be a tsunami. I met many of them, about 60 of them are under the age of 40. They’re veterans, small business owners, doctors, many women who have stepped up, 18 months ago never imagined they’d be running for Congress. They see a wrecking ball president and they’re inspired to help their community. I think we are expanding the map as far as where we can compete. When I talk to them, it’s not about Trump. One candidate said to me, he said in my district, Donald Trump is like smog. We know it’s there, we breathe it, we see it every day. But that’s not the focus. The best thing we can do is focus on health care, making sure that tax cuts help everyone and going after the corruption. So I think that’s a winning message in each of these districts.”

Rep. Swalwell was correct on two points. Democrats have an amazing slate of great candidates. The main reason why 2018’s candidates are stronger than in previous midterms is that the candidates reflect the districts that they are running in. Trump has inspired so many qualified and talented people to run against his agenda that Democrats have had the problem of too many good candidates running in some primaries. There is no one size fits all Democrat, and 2018’s candidates well represent the districts that they want to serve.

From talking to voters, Trump himself isn’t why Democrats and Independents are so fired up. It is what Trump has done especially on healthcare that has motivated people to vote for the Democratic candidate. The top-polling concern for voters is healthcare, not the Russia investigation. People are hurting. Trump and the Republican Congress have only made their lives worse.

Democrats are coming for Congress in November. The blue wave is real, and Trump had better buckle up for a very bumpy ride. For more discussion about this story join our Rachel Maddow and MSNBC group.
