Sarah Huckabee Sanders released a statement for Trump on his election security meeting, and the statement did not mention Russia once.
Here is the White House statement from Sanders as provided to PoliticusUSA:
Today, President Donald J. Trump chaired a meeting of the National Security Council (NSC) to receive updates on the whole-of-government approach his Administration is implementing to safeguard our Nation’s elections. This effort was put in motion at the beginning of his Administration and has been carried out to support State and local election officials in all 50 States, the Territories, and the District of Columbia.
The President has made it clear that his Administration will not tolerate foreign interference in our elections from any nation state or other malicious actors.
The President’s discussion with his NSC addressed threats posed to our elections from malign foreign actors, efforts underway to provide cybersecurity assistance to State and local authorities, and actions to investigate, prosecute, and hold accountable those who illegally attempt to interfere in our political and electoral processes. The Trump Administration will continue to provide the support necessary to the owners of elections systems – State and local governments – to secure their elections.
Attendees:
President Donald J. Trump
Vice President Michael Pence
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo
Secretary of the Treasury Steven Mnuchin
Secretary of Defense James Mattis
Attorney General Jeff Sessions
Secretary of Homeland Security Kirstjen Nielsen
Chief of Staff to the President General John Kelly
Director of the Office of Management and Budget Mick Mulvaney
Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats
Director of the Central Intelligence Agency Gina Haspel
National Security Advisor John Bolton
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Dunford, Jr.
Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Christopher Wray
Commander, U.S. Cyber Command, and Director, National Security Agency/Chief, Central Security Service General Paul Nakasone
The White House released a statement about a national security meeting on election security that did not mention the one country that is proven to have attacked a US election. This is, of course, not surprising because Donald Trump refuses to state that Russia attacked the election. The White House continues to deny what everyone knows is true. Russia attacked the 2016 election. Russia is attacking the 2018 election, and Donald Trump is doing less than nothing about it.
Being that the meeting lasted less than 30 minutes, Trump just wasn’t able to get around to it, but the more likely answer is that Russia was intentionally left out of the conversation because Comrade Trump needs all the help that he can get this November.
