No Way, No How: Why Jim Jordan Shouldn’t Even Be In Congress, Let Alone Speaker Of The House

Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan announced on Thursday that he is putting his hat in the ring to be the next Speaker of the House, if Republicans maintain their majority following the 2018 midterm elections.

In a statement today, he said: “Should the American people entrust us with the majority again in the 116th Congress, I plan to run for Speaker of the House to bring real change to the House of Representatives.”

Not forgetting to massage Donald Trump’s ego, Jordan added:  “President Trump has taken bold action on behalf of the American people. Congress has not held up its end of the deal, but we can change that. It’s time to do what we said.”

The Ohio Republican is correct. Congress has not held up its end of the deal. But that’s because members of Congress like him and his friends in the nut-job caucus have hijacked our government and used it as partisan weapon.

Repeatedly, they have put their extremist brand of politics ahead of their constituents and their country.

Nowhere is that more evident than in their move this week to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein , the Republican who is overseeing Robert Mueller’s special counsel investigation. Jordan joined Rep. Mark Meadows in formally introducing the measure on Wednesday.

Whenever there has been an effort by congressional Republicans to wage war on American institutions and protect this president from any accountability, Jim Jordan as been front and center, wearing a tinfoil hat and waving his baton.

But the Ohio congressman didn’t just start disqualifying himself in the Trump era. When Barack Obama was president and Hillary Clinton was inching toward the Democratic nomination, Jordan was one of the top cheerleaders in the Benghazi clownshow.

Of course, nothing came out of that actual witch hunt, but that’s not the point to people like Jim Jordan. He doesn’t care about results because he didn’t go to Congress to get things done or help the American people. He went so he could burn it to the ground.

And if Jordan’s pathetic track record in the lower chamber wasn’t bad enough, his work prior to being a right-wing hack is sure to boil your blood.

According to NBC News, when Jordan was an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State University from 1986 to 1994, he turned a blind eye to widespread sexual abuse.

The Trump hack denies knowing anything about it, but the report cites wrestlers who say the abuse “was common knowledge” and it “would have been impossible for Jordan to be unaware.”

NBC News notes that “one wrestler said he told Jordan directly about the abuse.”

Last week the scandal worsened as more than 100 former Ohio State students credibly claimed that the same team doctor “committed some form of sexual misconduct with them.”

For all the damage he has done and will do if given the opportunity, Jim Jordan shouldn’t just be denied a chance to be second in line to the presidency; he should be forced to resign from Congress altogether.

But, ultimately, he is betting that the disgusting version of politics that put Trump in the White House will elevate people like him to more powerful positions in our government.

For the sake of the country, the American people need to prove him wrong in November.
