Against all evidence, Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) said he didn’t have a problem with President Donald Trump sitting down with Putin, claiming that what matters is the message that Trump might send to stop meddling in our country.
“What I think matters is the message and if the message is stop meddling in our country, stop violating our sovereignty, then I support that,” Ryan told reporters. “But it’s the message that counts.”
But Ryan does have a line. Ryan says they will not be inviting Putin to address a joint session, because they recognize that he is not an ally.
“We would certainly not be giving him an invitation to do a joint session,” Ryan added. “That’s something we reserve for allies.”
To recap, Ryan believes that the man who sided with Putin LAST WEEK and has gone back to denying Russia’s ongoing attack against the United States and insisted on meeting in private with Putin will somehow magically turn into someone who puts the United States first on this next meeting.
The Trump Russia investigation is not a witch hunt. In fact, not only have the latest indictments of 12 Russians made that clear but Trump himself made that clear.
Putin said on stage standing next to Trump that the Russians wanted Trump to win. So Trump knows this. Paul Ryan knows this.
“The indictment charges 12 Russian military officers by name with conspiring to interfere with the 2016 presidential election,” Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein told a news conference. The indictment could serve as the foundation for future conspiracy charges or abetting indictments of Americans.
Trump is now threatening to take away the security clearances of those who might be witnesses against him in the Trump Russia investigation. So he is more than capable of acting like a dictator when the spirit moves him. The spirit has not moved him to even stand up to Putin, and Paul Ryan is stabbing the United States in the back again by pretending that Trump will suddenly change and put his own country ahead of whatever Putin has on him or they are in on together.
Speaker Ryan won’t stand up for his country, so House Democrats issued a resolution condemning Trump for not standing up to Putin.
The Intelligence Community and anyone with working knowledge of Vladimir Putin have warned how dangerous this meeting was. Another can’t be allowed.
Leader Pelosi said Monday, “In the House here though, instead of honoring our oath to protect and defend our Constitution and our country from enemies both foreign and domestic, House Republicans are complicit in the president’s betrayal of out democracy.”
Speaker Ryan just proved Pelosi right again.
