Rep. Adam Schiff saw through Trump’s threat to take away national security clearance from several former national security officials to call it what it really is, a presidential enemies list.
Schiff tweeted:
Politicizing security clearances to retaliate against former national security officials who criticize the President would set a terrible new precedent.
An enemies list is ugly, undemocratic and un-American. Is there no length Trump will not go to stifle opposition? Wake up GOP.
— Adam Schiff (@RepAdamSchiff) July 23, 2018
Trump’s plan to strip national security clearances from former CIA director John Brennan, former FBI director James Comey, Michael Hayden, Susan Rice, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper is really nothing more than a list of enemies and critics of the Russia scandal who he wants to silence. It is interesting that there wasn’t a single former official named on the list who has not criticized Trump.
Donald Trump also wants to take away security clearances from people who have a media profile in the national security realm.
Rep. Schiff was correct. No one should be fooled. Trump’s threat has nothing to do with national security. Trump is trying to get back at people who he views as enemies. It also just so happens to be that his “enemies” are either people who have investigated the Russia scandal or people with expert knowledge on Russia and national security.
Trump is trying to stifle criticism, and it is up to every single American to make sure that it does not happen.
