Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) gave proof of the his party’s lack of patriotism and backbone on Monday when following President Trump’s shocking stance siding with Russia during his joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin, said Trump “must appreciate that Russia is not our ally.”
“There is no moral equivalence between the United States and Russia, which remains hostile to our most basic values and ideals. The United States must be focused on holding Russia accountable and putting an end to its vile attacks on democracy,” Ryan said in a statement.
Oh. Well, that will do it!
Or, a real patriot might actually do something to protect our 2018 election. A real patriot might actually protect the Muller investigation. A real patriot might actually say something stronger than there’s “no question” that Moscow interfered in 2016.
While some Republicans are standing up slightly to Trump, when you put their responses in context that the United States President just held a joint press conference with the president of a hostile foreign adversary that attacked the U.S. in an act of warfare in 2016 and he sided with this enemy of the United States over his own intelligence community and over his own country’s well being and national security, it’s shocking how feeble the Republican responses are.
What Trump did today was “treasonous,” according to former CIA Chief John Brennan.
The Republican Party likes to think of itself as the national security party. The strong on enemies party. But their president is actively, publicly siding with an enemy that attacked the U.S. and IS STILL DOING SO. Reminding this president of the reality that Putin hacked 2016 to help Trump is only seen as a rebuke in Republican world.
