Joe Biden Leads New Poll of 2020 Democratic Presidential Contenders

A new poll has found that nearly a third of registered Democratic voters favor former Vice President Joe Biden to be their nominee in the 2020 race for president. This puts Biden squarely in the “front runner” spot with just over four months to go until this year’s midterm elections.

Over the past two months we have had several reports about Biden’s chances in the 2020 race, and this latest poll confirms that many Democrats would like Biden to be their standard bearer to take on Donald Trump in 2020.

A Suffolk University poll from early May found that former Vice President Joe Biden and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) would be the favorites in the 2020 Democratic primary in New Hampshire, which has the country’s first presidential primary. In that poll Biden also came in at first place with nearly 30% of the vote.

In May we also published an article entitled “Biden Unleashes On GOP In A Campaign-Style Speech That Should Terrify Trump” and reported that:

“In his fiery speech Joe Biden made it clear that taking on Donald Trump and his Republican appeasers is about more than the same tired political arguments. It’s about what kind of values we want the United States to represent.”

Apparently most Democrats want a fighter to take on Trump, and they think Biden is the right person to do that.

A month ago we published another article about Biden entitled “Biden Rage May Lead to Fight With Trump in 2020 Race” in which we discussed that anger may be the motivating force if Biden decides to take on Trump in two years. In that article we reported that:

“Joe Biden is spoiling for a fight, and the opponent he wants to face is none other than Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America. Biden is outraged at Trump’s behavior on every level, and the former Vice President is not the kind of man who hides his emotions very well.”

In the new Harvard CAPS/Harris’s June poll Biden was favored by 32 percent of Democrats polled while Hillary Clinton finished second with 18 percent of the vote Sen. Bernie Sanders was third with 16 percent. Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) got 10 percent of the vote.

The Harvard/Harris poll also asked respondents about Sens. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), as well as billionaire Michael Bloomberg and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D).

Of those other possible candidates, Booker had the best results, with 6 percent supporting him. The others did not poll well, since Boomberg had just 3 percent, Harris had 2 percent and Cuomo and Gillibrand had just 1 percent each.

Biden has previously discussed 2020 with typical frankness, and he has said he is “interested” in running for president but he is also hesitant to jump in the race. In 2016 he toyed with the idea of running against Clinton but ultimately backed off, citing the death of his son Beau as the reason.

Just this past week, he told The Washington Post that he isn’t “looking to live in the White House,” but added, “I don’t know what I’m going to do.”
