California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters has become a lightning rod in the culture wars brought to America by the Trump administration. Yesterday the owner of a bar and restaurant near Richmond, Virginia posted a racist rant on Facebook telling the outspoken Congresswoman to “shut your big fat lips” and “go back to Africa.”
Waters has stoked additional controversy and ire from Republicans after she made public statements encouraging the resistance to confront Trump administration officials.
Waters made her comments after White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders complained about being asked to leave another Virginia restaurant several days ago.
The woman who posted the rant is Judy Talley Maxie who owns Caddy’s Restaurant on Midlothian Turnpike in Chesterfield just west of Richmond, Virginia.
“Maxine Waters, shut your your big fat lips, no one wants to hear your rasium remarks…Go back to Africa where youre from,” Maxie wrote on her Facebook page. ‘I’m proud to be white’ I bet no one passes this on because they are scared of be called a racist,” she added.
Maxie was confronted about her racist rant directed toward Waters and defended herself on the grounds of “free speech.”
“Sorry. If everybody else can speak what they think, I can too. It is a country that we have freedom of speech and I use mine quite often,” she said.
Donald Trump, meanwhile, has also been attacking Waters for her comments, which have been rejected by most Democrats. Several days ago he falsely accused her of inciting violence against his supporters, and threatened her with retaliation.
Then last night he slammed her while speaking at a campaign rally in North Dakota while also attacking Democratic Senator Heidi Heitkamp.
“When Heidi ran for office, she promised to be an independent vote for the people of North Dakota. Instead she immediate joined Chuck (Schumer) and Nancy (Pelosi),” Trump said.
“And now they have a new leader. Who’s the leader?” Trump asked the crowd. “Maxine Waters is their new one.”
Waters has defended her comments and has said that she believes in protesting peacefully but also pointing out that Trump has made many more threats against his opponents.
