House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) demanded an apology from Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) after she called on citizens to use their First Amendment rights to protest the Trump administration.
Video:
“There’s no place for this. She obviously should apologize,” Ryan told reporters at a news conference.
Here’s what Waters said, which is nothing like the egregious things Trump has said, including threatening her for this:
“If you think we’re rallying now, you ain’t seen nothing yet. You have members of your cabinet being booed out of restaurants. You have protesters taking up at their house. We say no peace, no sleep. No peace, so sleep. And guess what? We’re going to win this battle, because while you try to quote the Bible, Jeff Sessions and others, you really don’t know the Bible. God is on our side. On the side of the children. On the side of what’s right. On the side of what’s honorable. On the side of understanding that if we can’t protect the children, we can’t protect anybody, and so let’s stay the course. Let’s make sure that we show up where ever we have to show up. If you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out, and you create a crowd, and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.”
Maxine Waters is standing up against jailing children, and Paul Ryan wants an apology. Ryan won’t take a stand against Trump on jailed babies, insane tariffs, serial sexual assault against women, mocking a disabled reporter, inciting violence against protesters, or Trump saying that there are some good white supremacists after one of them murdered someone.
But Ryan is demanding an apology from Maxine Waters for her urging citizens to use their First Amendment rights, as former President Barack Obama has also done.
Do I hear the countdown to Democrats caving to this absurd, petulant demand? I hope not.
