Blue Wave Heading For Swing States As Dems Lead In Ohio, Florida And Arizona

Three states Donald Trump carried in 2016 are at great risk of turning blue this November, according to a new poll conducted by NBC News/Marist.

In Ohio, Florida and Arizona, Democratic candidates are besting their Republican opponents, in two cases beating them by substantial margins.

In the Buckeye State, incumbent Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown has a massive 13-point lead over millionaire GOP opponent Jim Renacci. That’s a 21-point shift toward the Democrats since Trump carried the state by eight points in 2016.

In Arizona, a state Trump won by four points, Democratic candidate Kyrsten Sinema is leading each of her potential GOP opponents by double digits. She fares best – a 25-point lead – against disgraced ex-sheriff Joe Arpaio, who was pardoned by Trump last summer.

The final state polled – Florida – also showed the Democratic candidate with a lead, though slightly smaller. According to NBC, Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson leads current governor and GOP opponent Rick Scott by four points. Trump carried the state by just over a single percentage point.

If the numbers hold, Democrats would hold onto two Trump states and pick up another one, cutting into the Republican Senate majority.

The Blue Wave could continue to grow

While the survey results bring good news for Democrats in states that Trump won in 2016, there are signs that the blue wave could grow even bigger.

Since the beginning of June, the Democratic advantage on the generic ballot has doubled from three points to six points, according to RealClearPolitics. Following the same trend, Trump’s approval rating has dropped four points in a week, according to Gallup.

Tuesday’s polling in three states Trump carried seems to be an indication that the blue momentum isn’t fading away. In fact, as the GOP tax plan becomes less popular and Trump continues to throw gasoline on his border crisis, it could build even further.
