Fresh off his humiliating immigration defeat, Donald Trump tried to change the subject at a pointless political rally in Duluth, Minnesota, where he heaped more praise on his BFF Kim Jong Un.
The president bragged about his empty summit with the murderous tyrant, saying Kim is turning North Korea “into a great, successful country.”
His supporters, tightly blindfolded, cheered every moment of it, clearly not caring – or knowing – about the disgusting human rights violations committed by the North Korean leader.

Trump heaped praise on Kim, and the crowd ate every spoonful:
Chairman Kim will turn that country into a great, successful country. And let me tell you this. A year and a half ago, nobody thought that was possible. In fact, before I was elected, everybody assumed we were going to war. It would be a vicious war. … You could have lost millions and millions of people. But I got along with Kim Jong Un. I got along. And that’s a good thing, not a bad thing.
The Trump base is a frightening cult
No matter what Trump says and does, his supporters nod and applaud. There is never a moment when he goes too far for them – even if he’s heaping praise on a dictator that leads one of the most repressive and murderous regimes in the world.
“It’s not a good place for any party to have a cult-like situation as it relates to a President that happens to be purportedly of the same party,” GOP Sen. Bob Corker said recently.
He couldn’t have been more right about the state of the Republican Party, and the wild applause for Trump’s praise of Kim Jong Un on Wednesday is further evidence of that.
As Human Rights Watch notes, “The (North Korean) government routinely uses arbitrary arrest and punishment of crimes, torture in custody, forced labor, and executions to maintain fear and control.”
On Wednesday in Duluth, not only did Trump give his seal of approval to this behavior – all because he got along with Kim – but his supporters did, too. And in the process, they again proved that they would happily follow this president off a cliff if he asked them.
