Trump showed just how out of touch with reality he is by tantruming over Rep. Jared Polis (D-CO) introducing a bill to repeal his tax cuts for the wealthy and use the funds to erase $1.4 trillion in student loan debt.
Rep. Polis said of his bill in a statement provided to PoliticusUSA, “The Republican tax plan was all about special interests cashing in at the expense of everyone else. My plan shows what a difference we can make for middle-class Americans for even less cost. So many people go to school, get a job, and work hard but still struggle to get ahead because they are weighted down by student loans. It’s time to help them get out from the mountain of debt they are under. The good news is – if we repeal the Republicans’ sweetheart deals for corporations, we can cancel out all student loan debt, make college more affordable for future students, and still have money left over to reduce our deficit.”
The idea of helping middle-class people get ahead drew the ire of Trump, who tweeted:
Trump didn’t have anything to say about the idea of helping student borrowers who are drowning in debt because their loan interest rate is going up faster than their paychecks. Trump thinks that Democrats wanting to repeal an unpopular tax cut is a good thing for Republicans. The president seems to have no idea that his tax cuts for the rich are unpopular and that Republican candidates have stopped running on them.
The idea of repealing the Trump tax cuts is a good one. It would be an even stronger campaign issue if Democrats promised to repeal them and direct the money into tax cuts for the middle-class and poor.
Trump’s only achievement is going to be easily undone by a Democratic Congress and president.
The Trump presidency will someday have nothing to show for itself but crime, corruption, possible impeachment, and damage to democratic institutions that will take decades to fix.
Trump has managed to pass one major piece of legislation and Democrats will get rid of it as soon as they can.
