Father of Parkland Shooting Victim Urges People to Make The Midterm About Guns

After 10 people were shot and killed on Friday in yet another school shooting , Fred Guttenberg, father of Jaime Guttenberg who was murdered in the Parkland school shooting on February 14th, begged people not to forget so easily and to make this election a single issue election.

“Please confirm for me that people are still paying attention and still plan to do something. Make this a single issue election,” the grieving father wrote on Twitter.

Fred Guttenberg has dedicated his life to the cause of gun safety in this country. Too bad our GOP-led Congress has not done the same thing.

House Democratic Leader Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) demanded a vote on gun violence legislation after the shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas while Republican Speaker Paul Ryan brought nothing but empty “thoughts and prayers” yet again.

It should not go unsaid that Republican lawmakers are protected by Secret Service and do not allow guns at their place of employment or their conventions, but they think it’s perfectly fine for suspected terrorists and domestic abusers to legally buy a gun that they can then leave available for their kids to take to school and shoot people they’re made at.

This is so reprehensible that it’s hard to fathom what a parent like Fred Guttenberg must be feeling as he watched yet another school shooting take more childrens’ lives as our elected lawmakers pander to the threat of the gun lobby’s dark money.

We have come to a truly crucial crossroad in this country. Everyone must vote, all of the time, even when it’s over nothing, or they are essentially condoning this war on our nation’s children.
