The state of California has notified Trump that they have denied his request for National Guard troops to be sent to the border.
The AP reported, “California has rejected the federal government’s initial plans for National Guard troops to the border because the work is considered too closely tied to immigration enforcement, two U.S. officials told The Associated Press. The state informed federal officials it will not allow its troops to fix and repair vehicles, operate remotely-controlled surveillance cameras to report suspicious activity to the Border Patrol, operate radios and provide “mission support,” which can include clerical work, buying gas and handling payroll, according to officials with knowledge of the talks who spoke condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter.”
California isn’t going to send National Guard troops to Trump’s fake border crisis. The White House is reported to be outraged by this decision because Trump can no longer claim that he has bipartisan support from all border state governors. The border crisis is not real. It is a piece of fiction that Trump imported from watching Fox News. The President needs a gimmick to try to pressure Congress to fund the wall that Mexico is supposed to be paying for. California isn’t playing along, and in the process, they have wrecked the optics of Trump as a “tough on the border” president.
