Here Are The Most Shocking Revelations From Comey’s Book

Advance copies of fired FBI Director James Comey’s highly anticipated book, A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership, were released Thursday.  The book is a  memoir based primarily on contemporaneous notes Comey took after his meetings and conversations with President Trump.  In the book he takes jabs at Trump, writing that his presidency is a “forest fire.”

“Donald Trump’s presidency threatens much of what is good in this nation,” Comey says. “This president is unethical, and untethered to truth and institutional value. His leadership is transactional, ego driven, and about personal loyalty.”

The most sensational revelation from the book is Comey’s assertion that Trump asked the former FBI director to investigate the so-called “pee tape.”

“He brought up what he called the ‘golden showers thing’… adding that it bothered him if there was ‘even a one percent chance’ his wife, Melania, thought it was true,” Comey wrote. “He just rolled on, unprompted, explaining why it couldn’t possibly be true, ending by saying he was thinking of asking me to investigate the allegation to prove it was a lie. I said it was up to him.”

Here are the other top revelations from Comey’s national bestseller:

  1. Comey compares Trump to a Mafia boss. When Comey met Trump to brief him on Russia’s involvement in the 2016 election, he recalled the then-president-elect’s reaction reminded him of the mob.  He said that the president told him, “I need loyalty, I expect loyalty.” “The demand was like Sammy the Bull’s Cosa Nostra induction ceremony — with Trump, in the role of the family boss, asking me if I have what it takes to be a ‘made man,'” Comey wrote.
  2. Comey makes fun of Trump’s hand size. According to AP News, Comey said that Trump’s hands are “smaller than mine but did not seem unusually so.”
  3. He makes fun of Trump’s complexion.  Comey wrote, “His face appeared slightly orange, with bright white half-moons under his eyes where I assume he placed small tanning goggles, and impressively coiffed, bright blond hair, which on close inspection looked to be all his. I remember wondering how long it must take him in the morning to get that done.”
  4. Comey assumed Hillary Clinton was going to win the 2016 election. He wrote “It is entirely possible that, because I was making decisions in an environment where Hillary Clinton was sure to be the next president, my concern about making her an illegitimate president by concealing the restarted investigation bore greater weight than it would have if the election appeared closer or if Donald Trump were ahead in all polls. But I don’t know.”
  5. John Kelly told Comey he was “sick” about Trump firing the FBI director and that he planned to quit in protest. “He said he didn’t want to work for dishonorable people who would treat someone like me in such a manner,” Comey wrote. “I urged Kelly not to do that, arguing that the country needed principled people around the president. Especially this president.”
  6. Comey says Attorney General Jeff Sessions is “overwhelmed” by the job. Comey asked that Sessions not leave him alone in the room with Trump, Comey wrote.  “Sessions’ posture and face indicated he would not be able to help me. Sessions just cast his eyes down at the table, and they darted quickly back and forth, side to side,” Comey wrote. “He said nothing.”
