Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has a simple message for Donald Trump as he lashes out following Monday’s FBI raids of Michael Cohen: Don’t fire Robert Mueller.
In a tweet, Sen. Schumer told the president not to use the raids to “interfere with the chain of command in the Russia probe.”
If @realDonaldTrump is thinking of using the FBI raid to fire Special Counsel Mueller or otherwise interfere with the chain of command in the Russia probe, we Democrats have one simple message for him: don’t.

In two subsequent Twitter posts, the Democratic leader reminded Trump that Mueller is a Republican and his investigation is “critical to the health of our democracy, and must be allowed to continue.”
Mueller, a Republican, has uncovered a deep & detailed pattern of Russian interference in our elections that led to indictments & guilty pleas. It also led to the Trump admin itself leveling sanctions against Russian individuals, proof that it’s not a so-called ‘witch-hunt.’

This could finally push Trump over the edge
The fact that a tip from Robert Mueller spurred the FBI into raiding his personal lawyer could push him over the edge.
After all, Donald Trump is one of the least transparent presidents we’ve seen in a long time. Unlike every other modern president, Trump has refused to disclose his tax returns, suggesting that he has something to hide in his finances.
With the FBI having its hands all over Trump’s legal documents, it leaves him incredibly exposed. It also could finally motivate him to do what he’s clearly always wanted to do – fire Mueller.
Democrats are right to stand united in defense of Robert Mueller. It’s time for Republicans in Congress to do the same before Donald Trump does the unthinkable.
