Great News For Democrats As Trump Is Killing Republican Optimism

A Morning Consult poll revealed that optimism among Republican voters is plunging due to Trump being an anchor that is boosting Democrats ahead of the midterm election.

According to the poll, “But while Trump’s overall rating was little changed among GOP voters — falling 1 percentage point to 80 percent on the approval front and increasing the same amount, to 17 percent, in disapproval — there was a 22 point negative swing on the right direction/wrong track question, with 64 percent of Republicans saying the country is moving in the right direction and 36 percent taking the opposing view. In the March 15-19 survey, 75 percent of GOP voters were optimistic and 25 percent were pessimistic. Among Democrats, net approval in the latest poll slid 8 points, while independents had a 14 point decline.”

Trump is losing Republicans by killing voter optimism

The Trump base remains largely unchanged, but the plunge in optimism suggests that Trump isn’t a positive motivating force to get Republicans out to vote in November. Pessimistic voters don’t show up to support candidates on Election Day. Voters across the political spectrum are realizing that the tax cuts were a scam. They don’t see any benefits in their paychecks, and that Trump is irrational and all over the map causing the country to have no clear direction.

Trump ran a campaign of negativity and division where he spends most of his time demonizing others. Given that this is how Trump functions, it is par for the course that he would govern in this same manner as president.

The problem is that negativity doesn’t motivate voters to vote. Negativity, when used in the extreme doses that Trump delivers, turns voters off and it will depress the practitioner’s own base. Republican voter turnout has been down in special elections across the country because Trump is not an inspirational figure. He doesn’t excite voters to go out and support him.

When Democratic enthusiasm is combined with Trump fueled Republican apathy, the result won’t just be a blue wave. It may also be a political bloodbath.
