There has been wide speculation about Donald Trump’s silence in recent weeks, particularly on the Stormy Daniels controversy. The adult film star’s attorney told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes on Tuesday that he has it all figured out.
According to Michael Avenatti, the reason the president has been uncharacteristically silent over his alleged affair with Daniels is that “he know it’s true.”

Avenatti told the MSNBC host:
He knows it’s true, Chris. And, you know, he wants deniability. It’s the same reason why he didn’t sign the agreement – so he could later claim he didn’t know anything about it, and now he sends Sarah and others out to talk to the press so that he can later claim, well, they didn’t understand what I told them. That’s exactly not what I told them. I didn’t say this. Yada yada yada. He wants deniability. That’s why we haven’t heard from him.
The tables have finally turned on Trump
Throughout the presidential campaign and his 14-month presidency, Trump has not once hesitated to hurl attacks at anyone and everyone – from celebrities to media figures to political opponents. The insults range from petty to vulgar to downright disgusting.
His filterless rhetoric and inability to keep his mouth shut make his current silence on the Stormy Daniels controversy so baffling. After all, the adult film actress is leveling a series of serious allegation toward the president. If there was ever a moment for pushback from Trump, now would be it.
But in this case, it appears that Trump doesn’t want to be on the record making any false claims about Daniels. This likely isn’t just because Trump knows the allegations are true; instead, its because the president knows there must be proof to back up the claims.
Donald Trump and his henchmen spent a year trying to silence Stormy Daniels and other women with similar stories to tell. Now, as these women speak up, it is the President of the United States who is afraid to open his mouth.
