While Rex Tillerson was learning on Twitter that he needs to update his resume pronto, yet another White House insider was being escorted out of the building. Sure, with less fanfare, but with no less intrigue or drama. It’s a day ending in “y,” right? What else would you expect from Donald Trump’s White House?
CNN reports that John McEntee -Donald Trump’s personal assistant- is being investigated for what are being described as “serious financial crimes.” So serious, in fact, that he was fired, escorted out of the White House and not even allowed to collect his things -not even his jacket- on his way out.
Their unidentified source stresses that these “serious financial crimes” are not related to Donald Trump. That’s what our grandparents used to call “cold comfort.”
The Wall Street Journal earlier reported that these crimes include mishandling taxes and issues with online gambling. Whatever these crimes are, they’re serious enough to deny him security clearance… but evidently not serious enough to keep him from taking a job in Trump’s re-election campaign.
Before McEntee could hail a cab, the Trump campaign announced that he’d be taking a job with them as “Senior Adviser for Campaign Operations.”
So to recap: McEntee -who worked very closely with Trump as his “body man” since the first days of the campaign- was unable to obtain security clearance because he’s being investigated for crimes so serious he was escorted out of the building (and if that doesn’t sound so bad, just ask Omarosa what it’s like to be escorted out of your place of employment by the Secret Service) , only to land a job with the Trump campaign before you could hiss “the best people” under your breath.
