Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) said that Trump’s White House meeting with members of Congress on gun violence was reality TV, and he demanded action, not empty words.
Video:
Sen. Blumenthal was asked how he felt about the meeting at the White House. He answered, “What we saw yesterday is simply reality TV. Until it’s matched by action. And not just cosmetic or symbolic action like the so-called fix nix bill or raising the age, but real comprehensive action that includes, for example, extending background checks to all purchases, and even a ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines and the bill that Senator Graham and I are going to introduce next week, it has strong bipartisan support. It’s a red flag measure that would prevent people who are imminently dangerous to themselves or others by buying or possessing guns. It would federalize statutes that would help save lives. This kind of comprehensive approach is what’s necessary. What we have now is baby steps.”
Richard Blumenthal had it right. The White House meeting was the BS of a man who will say anything that the person in front of him wants to hear. Trump and the Republicans have not matched the rhetoric with any serious non-NRA approved action. Until Republicans step up and do what the American people are demanding, all of this is BS empty talk that is trying to weather the storm until the issue of mass shootings is no longer at the top of the news.
Democrats are calling out the nonsense that Trump is trying to sell. The overwhelming majority of Americans want action on banning assault weapons. Anything else will be seen as a cave to the NRA.
It is not what Trump says, but what he does that matters most on this issue, and everyone is tired of his reality TV BS.
