The Democrats are getting organized for the midterm and planning to contact 50 million voters before November’s election.
NBC News reported, “Looking to harness anti-Donald Trump enthusiasm in what could be a banner year for Democrats, the Democratic National Committee will announce Wednesday that it’s planning to contact 50 million voters before the November elections.”
The reaction from many Democrats in Congressional districts that have been winnable for years will be that it’s about time. Democrats have needed to pour support into non-presidential candidates for decades. The lack of Democratic turnout in previous midterms has, in part been due to voting tendencies, but a larger problem has been a lack of prioritization and resources for local and state parties.
Contacting 50 million voters won’t solve everything, but it is a start, and more than the DNC has done in a midterm since Howard Dean was chair. The DNC has a long way to go to clean up the mess by Debbie Wasserman Schultz, but getting back to their grassroots is a great start and a sign that the new DNC team, remember after Perez and Ellison took over the DNC fired everyone, is off to a good start.
