A top Justice Department official alerted the White House two weeks ago that “significant information requiring additional investigation would further delay the security clearance process of senior adviser Jared Kushner,” according to a new report by the Washington Post’s Carol D. Leonnig, Robert Costa and Josh Dawsey.
Three people told the writers that on February 9th, Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein alerted White House Counsel Donald McGahn two weeks ago that “significant information requiring additional investigation would further delay the security clearance process of senior adviser Jared Kushner.”
The Post noted, “Rosenstein also oversees the investigation by special counsel Robert S. Mueller III, who has scrutinized Kushner’s contacts with foreign officials and business dealings as he examines Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.”
Trump said on Friday he will leave it to John Kelly to settle Kushner’s security clearance, but made it clear that he wants Kushner to keep his job.
The situation had caused tensions between Kushner and Kelly according to a source familiar with the situation.
Is it new information that was discovered by Mueller’s investigation that is holding up Kushner’s clearance?
No matter what it is, there are far too many people in Trump’s inner circle who don’t have security clearance but are being shown top secret information.
