Adam Schiff Lays Waste To GOP For Putting Trump Over American Interests

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, laid waste to Republicans on Monday, slamming them for putting Donald Trump over American interests.

In remarks made after the House voted to release the phony anti-FBI memo, Schiff said, “This is an effort to circle the wagons around the WhiteHouse and distract from the Russia probe.”

Rep Schiff said:

It’s a very sad day, I think, in the history of this committee. As I said to my committee colleagues during this hearing, sadly we can fully expect that the president of the United States will not put the national interest over his own personal interest. But it is a sad day, indeed, when that is also true of our own committee because today this committee voted to put the president’s personal interest, perhaps their own political interest, above the national interest and denying themselves even the ability to hear from the department and the FBI.

This desperate Republican effort to provide political cover for Trump comes as Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation looks as though it’s going to nail the president. A clear pattern of Trump obstruction has developed and the Republicans are looking for a distraction.

As Schiff said on Thursday, and as I noted shortly after the GOP voted to release the phony memo, Republicans have decided that it’s more important to wage war against the U.S. intelligence community than to hold an increasingly guilty president accountable.

Republicans see the writing on the wall and are desperately grasping at straws to save the president, no matter how much damage they do to the country on their way down.
