Donald Trump’s effort to smear ‘Fire and Fury’ author Michael Wolff completely backfired as the explosive new book debuted at number one on the New York Times best seller list.
The news via CNN’s Brian Stelter:
It tops the list after selling a stunning number of copies in less than a week.
As The Hill noted on Wednesday, citing an interview with Wolff: “The book, which details President Trump’s campaign, transition and first several months in office, has sold over 1 million copies in four days.”
Wolff’s book shocked the political world and raised serious questions about Trump’s mental fitness to be president. According to his account, “100 percent” of his staff doesn’t believe he is mentally up to the task of being commander-in-chief.
In one of the many stunning revelations, Wolff claimed that Trump sometimes repeats the same stories word for word in a matter of minutes. During a New Years Eve party at Mar-a-Lago, the book alleged that the president couldn’t remember some of his oldest friends.
The White House quickly pushed back against these shocking charges, but Trump himself stepped on their damage control effort in a series of tweets in which he referred to himself as a “very stable genius.” Comments like that only underscore if not prove the concerns laid out in Wolff’s book.
The news isn’t likely to get any better for the White House either. Despite selling more than a million copies in just a few days, sales are only likely to explode once more copies are printed and it becomes even more widely available.
It should also be noted: Despite the president repeatedly calling the book a work of fiction, ‘Fire and Fury’ debuted at the top of the nonfiction best seller list.
