Rep, Adam Schiff (D-CA) didn’t pull any punches as he called out Republicans for running intentional distractions for Trump on Russia.
Video:
Schiff said on MSNBC’s MTP Daily, “The only thing I want to say — generally on the issue, of the majority’s attack on the FBI and the Department of Justice, this is, I think a profound distraction from what Russia did from the issues that we’re charged with investigating. It’s quite by design, and I think it is frankly very much in combination with the referral of Christopher Steele in a criminal investigation and will do potentially long-term damage to these institutions.”
The great unknown about the consequences of the Republican decision to attack institutions to protect Trump is what long-term damage their strategy is causing. The Republican distraction racket is causing a substantial portion of Americans who support Donald Trump to distrust the FBI and the DOJ. Both of these institutions are critical to public safety and security.
Rep. Schiff was correct. Republicans are playing a distraction game. The facts on Russia are so bad that Republicans are trying to distract people from looking at them. The GOP is trying to keep their base motivating by dreaming up a Democratic equivalent scandal. It is all intentional. The plan doesn’t seem to be fooling anyone, and if Democrats win back the House in 2018, the distractions will stop, and the real investigation will begin.
