Donald Trump had on of this most insane Twitter meltdowns yet on Saturday, defending himself over fresh questions raised about his mental stability.
In the extraordinary series of social media posts, Trump called himself “like, really smart” and claimed that he wasn’t just mentally stable but also a “genius.”
The jaw-dropping tweets:
Trump’s comments come after new revelations about his temperament and stability surfaced in Michael Wolff’s explosive new book, ‘Fire and Fury’.
Among many other troubling claims, the book alleges that “100 percent” of the people around the president question his fitness to be president, say that he is “semiliterate” and like a child, and that he is so paranoid about being poisoned that he prefers to eat McDonald’s (often in bed while watching television).
It also recounts troubling instances in which Trump will repeat the same stories word-for-word every ten minutes, and during a New Year’s Eve party at Mar-a-Lago, “a heavily made-up Trump failed to recognize a succession of old friends.”
Wolff’s claims have shocked the political world and ignited a media frenzy, but even without the book, Trump’s behavior during and before his time in the White House has raised serious questions about his mental health.
The president’s Twitter rampage on Saturday, which he apparently felt would tamp down these concerns, only raises more questions, and in many ways, it confirms the troubling allegations made in Wolff’s book.
