Republicans Attack Democrats with Tax Bill That Does What They Falsely Accused Obama of Doing

“It’s death to Democrats” is how Trump campaign tax policy adviser Stephen Moore described the Republican tax bill in an interview reported by Bloomberg.

“They go after state and local taxes, which weakens public employee unions. They go after university endowments, and universities have become play pens of the left. And getting rid of the mandate is to eventually dismantle Obamacare,” Sahil Kapur reported Moore saying.

GOP lobbyist John Feehery told Bloomberg the bill whacks Democrats, “The people who are going get the most whacked by this are wealthy and upper-middle class people who live in big cities. In other words, Democrats.”

These are incredible quotes from conservatives admitting that the Republican tax bill attacks Democrats.

Republicans are trying to blame Democrats for Republicans attacking Democrats by saying that they should have participated in the crafting of the bill, but this excuse is a joke given that the Republicans didn’t even read the bill before voting on it, let alone hold the normal hearings and debate on it that would have allowed for any legitimate input from the minority party.

Republicans falsely claimed that President Obama and Democrats didn’t include them in the crafting of Obamacare an then turned around and did that very thing with Trumpcare, and now they’re doing it with the tax bills.

Democrats had multiple public hearings on Obamacare both before and after introducing the legislation.

What’s happening here is exactly what Republicans falsely accused President Obama of doing for eight years – that is, using the power of the government to target conservatives. Republicans are using their majority to circumvent wise governing and instead stick their social beliefs in a tax bill that adds a trillion dollars to the deficit in order to carry out a conservative agenda that they have not been able to pass the proper way.

While it’s perfectly reasonable for the majority party to get more of their ideological beliefs passed than the minority party, that doesn’t translate to abusing power and ramming legislation through without proper procedures and it doesn’t equate to using legislation to punish people who didn’t vote for you.

The Republican tax bills are grotesque as much for how they are passing them as they are for what is in them. This is no way to legislate. This tax bill is as outrageous, offensive and shameful as Donald Trump is as president.

The Republican tax bill is small-minded, petty, abusive to the process and democracy, as well as reckless and irresponsible. Which is to say, it’s the new Republican norm.

Republicans just keep gaslighting America in retaliation for Americans balking as Republicans try to steal more from them to give families like the Trump family yet another tax break.
