A poll by the National Republican Senatorial Committee shows Democrat Doug Jones now leading Roy Moore by 12 points in the Alabama Senate election.
Politico reported, “Republican Roy Moore is trailing Democrat Doug Jones by 12 points in the Alabama special Senate election, according to a poll conducted by the National Republican Senatorial Committee after five women accused Moore of pursuing them as teenagers. Jones led Moore 51 to 39 percent….The poll shows a dramatic turn against Moore in Alabama: In early October, a committee poll had him leading by 16 points, and a survey early this month had him up by 9 points. Moore’s favorability numbers also tanked, from 49 percent in early October to 35 percent in the NRSC’s latest poll.”
Republicans have also been polling the potential of Attorney General Jeff Sessions as a write-in candidate, and it has not been going well. There is little support for Sessions to replace Moore on the ballot.
The polling has been all over the place in Alabama since the allegations of Roy Moore being a pedophile were published, but the one consistency in all of the polling is that the Democrat is gaining momentum, while Roy Moore is losing support across the board. The Alabama special election was supposed to be a cakewalk for Republicans. Luther Strange was expected to waltz his way to a full term in the Senate.
That all changed when Roy Moore won the Republican nomination. The election has been closer than anyone expected, and this poll shows why Republicans have been desperately trying to force Moore to drop out.
Anything could happen on Election Day, but even the GOP’s own polling suggests that Democrat Doug Jones has a good chance of becoming the next Senator from Alabama.
