Civil rights icon and Democratic Rep. John Lewis blasted Donald Trump on Wednesday, saying now – in the aftermath of the unspeakable violence in Las Vegas – is exactly the moment we should be talking about how to prevent future gun-related massacres.
“The time is always right to do what is right,” Lewis told MSNBC’s Chris Matthews.

When asked what he thinks of Trump’s insistence that now isn’t the time to be talking about legislative action to curb gun violence in America, Lewis said:
The time is always right to do what is right. We waited too long. How many more people will die? Will it be a few hundred? A few thousand? Or several thousand? We have to act. We cannot wait.
As the Democratic congressman noted, it’s never a bad time to talk about preventing gun violence. As the nation continues to reel from the massacre in Las Vegas, that becomes especially true.
If we don’t have this collective discussion now – if our leaders don’t act quickly – not only will this conversation again fade into the background, but we will see more mass shootings on the scale of what unfolded on Sunday in Vegas.
The United States continues to be the only country in the civilized world that has to endure such bloodshed on a daily basis. As dozens of families mourn the loss of their loved ones, it’s about time we did something to change that.
