Donald Trump could lose his lease on the DC Trump hotel as he is being investigated for being in violation of the lease due to the agreement specifically stating that no elected official can profit from the hotel.
Federal News Radio reported:
The General Services Administration’s Office of Inspector General is reviewing the lease between the agency and the Trump organization.
“GSA’s Office of Inspector General (OIG) is evaluating GSA’s management and administration of the ground lease for the Old Post Office Building,” a GSA spokesperson said in an Aug. 29 email to Federal News Radio. “GSA welcomes the oversight of the OIG and will continue to work with it on its evaluation.
The lease should have been canceled as soon as Trump was sworn into office. It is a clear Emoluments Clause violation, which if the other Russia related scandals don’t get Trump, the fact that he is basically laundering money through his hotel from foreign nations should. House Democrats have taken a keen interest in the corruption associated with the hotel and how the President is profiting off of it.
If Democrats win back the House in 2018, beyond the Russia investigation, look for the conflicts of interest at the Trump DC hotel to finally get the attention that they have deserved. Donald Trump can’t be allowed to undermine the president for financial gain.
The focus on what is going on the DC hotel could get intense very fast.
