Stephen Colbert perfectly put his finger on why America is so outraged by Trump’s weak response to Nazi domestic terrorism by listing everything that Trump has condemned more strongly than Nazis.
Video:
Colbert said, “It’s not like Trump is a shrinking violet. He’s known for criticizing things. If only the President was as mad about neo-Nazis murdering people in the streets as he’s been about Hillary Clinton, The New York Times, CNN, Joe Scarborough, Kristen Stewart, the cast of Hamilton, Diet Coke, Nordstrom not selling his daughter’s clothes, Arnold Schwarzenegger, the mayor of London Sadiq Khan, me, the state of New Hampshire, Gold Star families Penn Jillette’s Las Vegas show, the movie Django Unchained, Meryl Streep, and lady Ghostbusters.”
Stephen Colbert nailed it. The American people realize that they have a president who gets more bent out of shape over his media coverage on CNN, or what Joe Scarborough said about him than he does about neo-Nazis mowing people down in the streets of an American city.
The President’s reaction to Charlottesville is one of those defining moments that will be remembered by history. Trump had a chance to step up and lead, but he used his moment to defend racism while showing that what The New York Times writes is more important to him than innocent Americans dying on the streets at the hands of violent racists.
