Showing that even Republicans are starting to view Donald Trump as a dangerous and unhinged toddler-in-chief, GOP Sen. Ben Sasse strongly rejected the president’s latest suggestion that America should invade Venezuela.
Sasse dismissed Trump like he’s a child spewing nonsense and said that “Congress obviously isn’t authorizing war in Venezuela.”
More of the Nebraska senator’s statement:
No. Congress obviously isn’t authorizing war in Venezuela. Nicolas Maduro is a horrible human being, but Congress doesn’t vote to spill Nebraskans’ blood based on who the Executive lashes out at today.
Trump’s latest threat to wage war comes after he’s spent the last week hyping up the possibility of a nuclear war with North Korea, each day escalating tensions more than the day before.
Just yesterday, Trump excitedly tweeted that the United States is “locked and loaded” when it comes to taking military action against North Korea.
GOP Sen. Ben Sasse’s response to Trump’s latest threat on Venezuela proves that Republicans not only don’t take Trump seriously anymore, but they also view him as a president who should be dismissed altogether.
The increasing Republican strategy when it comes to Trump is to treat him as a parent would treat a child that just had his or her toy taken from them – just dismiss his tantrums until he settles down.
Donald Trump can continue to lash out at other world leaders and threaten to invade whichever country he’s mad at on a given day, but he’ll be doing so without the support of Congress, the American people or the international community.
