Senate Dem Warns Of More Trump Obstruction After FBI Raids Paul Manafort’s Home

As Robert Mueller’s investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election continues to escalate, Senate Democrat Richard Blumenthal warned that the president is likely to double down on his effort to obstruct the investigation and bully anyone involved in the inquiry.

In an interview on MSNBC, Blumenthal said he expects “additional Trump threats” as the investigation continues to rage on.

Video:

Blumenthal, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said:

I also, unfortunately, would be looking to additional Trump threats. He’s called [the investigation] a witch hunt and a hoax. He’s tried to draw red lines around financial dealings, other kinds of intimidation, and this raid redoubles my determination to support legislation that will protect the special counsel and that investigation. It reaffirms the reasons that I called for a special counsel with the powers to do what he has done in this raid.

As the Senate Democrat noted, the more explosive this investigation becomes, the more afraid Trump becomes – and, like a frightened child, Trump is only likely to become more desperate and erratic.

Blumenthal’s warning comes on the day it was revealed that Trump’s ex-campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, had his home raided by the FBI. The raid took place on July 26, a day after Manfort testified to the Senate Intelligence Committee.

It’s probably not a good sign that during an investigation into whether a presidential campaign colluded with a foreign adversary, the former manager of that campaign had his home raided by the FBI.

In a statement, Blumenthal underscored how serious the FBI raid is, saying, “Apparently there is now no question of clear evidence connecting Paul Manafort to some criminal wrong doing.”

That is why, as the Connecticut senator mentioned on MSNBC, it’s likely that Trump will double down on his bullying tactics and do all he can throw this investigation off course.

For that reason, those leading the charge to hold the administration accountable must redouble their efforts as well.
