The fight to save the Affordable Care Act isn’t over yet.
A new report on Saturday indicates that this week’s epic failure to pass any repeal and replace legislation won’t be the last effort by Donald Trump and Republicans to dismantle former President Obama’s signature achievement, which has helped provide health insurance to more than 20 million Americans.
According to Politico, the GOP plans to make one last run at repealing Obamacare and kicking millions of Americans off their health insurance plans.
More from the report:
Senate Republicans’ party-line attempts to repeal Obamacare aren’t dead just yet.
Some congressional Republicans and President Donald Trump aren’t giving up on their effort to roll back the health care law and are trying to write legislation that could get 50 Republican votes, according to multiple administration and Capitol Hill sources.
Trump met with three Republican senators on Friday about a proposal from Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.). to block grant federal health care funding to the states and keep much of Obamacare’s tax regime. White House officials also met with House Freedom Caucus chairman Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), according to two sources familiar with the meeting.
The fact that a new version of the repeal legislation is coming from Sen. Lindsey Graham, John McCain’s closest colleague and friend in the Senate, likely means that Democrats won’t be able to rely on the Arizona senator’s vote in taking it down.
In the event that Sens. Susan Collins and Lisa Murkowski continue to oppose efforts by their own party to repeal Obamacare, that means Democrats will again need to pick off one more vote to keep the new version of Trumpcare from advancing.
While this week’s victory on health care dealt a significant blow to the White House and Republicans who have been promising to repeal the Affordable Care for the better part of a decade, the GOP isn’t done trying to make it happen.
