The White House is destroying itself in real time, as Attorney General Jeff Sessions is described as being enraged over President Trump’s attacks against him, but he has no plans to give Trump what he wants by quitting as AG.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions has no plans to leave office as friends say he’s grown angry with President Donald Trump following a series of attacks meant to marginalize his power and, potentially, encourage his resignation.
“Sessions is totally pissed off about it,” said a Sessions ally familiar with his thinking. “It’s beyond insane. It’s cruel and it’s insane and it’s stupid.”
Trump is sabotaging his own agenda, creating a distraction for his administration, and is unlikely to follow through and fire the Attorney General. What this all comes down to is that Trump wants Sessions to interfere and put an end to the special counsel’s Russia investigation. Trump’s outrage is related only to Russia.
Jeff Sessions has two options. He can stew in his own anger, and let this blow over, or he can reverse his recusal and shut down the special counsel that is looking into Trump’s financial relationship with Russia.
Sessions knows that Trump’s anger means nothing. What makes Trump a terrible president is that he is all talk with no follow through. Jeff Sessions can wait out the storm, but the damage that Trump is doing to his administration will be impossible to reverse.
