White House officials are calling Trump’s hiring of the unqualified Anthony Scaramucci to his new communications director a joke.
According to three senior officials with knowledge of the situation, they and other top aides worried that the Scaramucci hiring would perpetuate the notion of “amateur hour” in the West Wing. White House officials who opposed Scaramucci’s planned rise in Trump’s ranks have referred to the incoming new addition as a “joke” and as a Trump-world “hanger-on” who isn’t qualified for the job and is unprepared to handle the near-constant communications crisis dogging President Trump, senior White House aides noted.
Scaramucci has never been a communications director and has zero experience running a communications operation of any kind, much less the White House Communications Office. Scaramucci was hired because Trump thinks that he is good looking, and likes the way that he defended him on cable news.
The President hired a totally unqualified person to be in charge of communications, which means that he has taken an already damaged communications office and made it worse.
The Trump White House is deeply divided, and the fact that there are Trump officials who are blasting the hiring made by their boss is a big hint as to why this administration can’t govern. The lack of professionalism is this White House should worry every American. If Trump won’t hire competent people for his press staff, the country has no chance against a terrorist attack or a natural disaster.
A joke communications director is a symptom of much more serious competency problem.
