Scaramucci Avoids Answer When Asked if He Will Commit to Being Accurate and Truthful

“I sort of feel like I don’t even have to answer that question. I hope you can feel that from me just from my body language, that’s the kind of person that I am,” Anthony Scaramucci said in response to being asked if he will commit to being accurate and truthful.

Jonathan Karl asked, “There’s been some questions of credibility… Let me ask you a variation of what I asked Sean Spicer on his first day. Is it your commitment to, to the best of your ability, to give accurate information and truthful…”

“I mean, I sort of feel like I don’t even have to answer that question,” Scaramucci said. “I hope you can feel that from me just from my body language, that’s the kind of person that I am. I’m gonna do the best that I can.”

The best that he can at what? Yes, he is going to do the best that he can at his job. Why would he say he feels he doesn’t have to answer that question, and why wouldn’t he just say that of course he is committed to accuracy and truth.

That kind of dodge might work in hedge fund sales, but it’s pretty junior league for politics. Even a first year law student knows to look for the non-answer dodge. It’s not hard to commit to trying to be as accurate as possible. That was the question put forth, and it was even qualified with “To the best of your ability.” So there is no need for a dodge.

Scaramucci did not say he had a commitment to give accurate information. He did not answer in the affirmative. He was very careful not to answer that question and then answer in a general way that he was going to do the best that he can.

Most people don’t have to avoid or dance around the question: “Is it your commitment to the best of your ability to give accurate information…”

Scaramucci told everyone to read his body language and consider the “kind of person” he is. This is right up there with “he has a good heart,” which is often said of someone who is accused of doing something pretty unforgivable.

If anyone ever tells you that you should know what kind of person they are when they are asked if they will tell you the truth, check your back.

Scaramucci feels he doesn’t have to answer the question of if he will commit to accuracy. You should just know the kind of person that he is from his body language. Shame on you for asking.

Yup, that’s Trump’s best pick ever for communication director.
