Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) used an appearance on ABC’s The View to thank every American who stood up, fought back, and refused to allow Republicans to take healthcare away from 22 million Americans.
Video:
Sanders said, “I want to personally thank millions of Americans who stood up and fought back and said that no, we’re not going to throw 22 million people in this country off of health insurance, cut Medicaid by $800 billion, defund Planned Parenthood, make it almost impossible for people with preexisting conditions to get affordable healthcare, and the American people say we’re not going to do that and give tax breaks to billionaires and large corporations. It appears that we have won that struggle right now.”
The key words in Sanders comments were right now. Republicans and Trump aren’t going to give up on taking health care away from 22 million people. There will be another vote on a stand alone repeal bill next week. The next bill must also be defeated before the country can get the real victory of forcing Republicans to negotiate a bipartisan health care bill with Democrats that will be passed and signed into law.
Until a new bill is passed that takes Obamacare repeal off of the table, the fight must continue.
Bernie Sanders was right. None of this would be happening without the hard work of millions of Americans, but the work isn’t done, and the fight must go on.
